About Us - Profile / History

Shares in TT Group plc were first traded on the London Stock Market in 1987. From 1987 to 1989 the company made a number of acquisitions before entering the electronics industry with the takeover of Crystalate Holdings plc in 1990.

TT Group plc transitioned to become a global manufacturer of specialist and niche products with further acquisitions during the 1990s. During this time the electronics activities were expanded with the acquisition of the Magnetic Materials Group, AB Electronics Products Group and BI Technologies. Further expansion was made with the purchase of Dale Electric International plc and the AEI Group, the Wire and Cables Division of GEC.

In 2001 the group changed its name to TT electronics plc to more closely reflect the structure of the group and the future direction. Also at this time a number of acquisitions made in the period from 1987 to 1990 were de-merged.

The group's major electronic business areas became automotive sensors and systems, electronic components and electronic manufacturing services (EMS). In addition the group manufactured power systems, cables, wire and cable accessory products.

New acquisitions since the change of name to TT electronics plc have been focussed on electronics. To add to our sensors and electronic systems division came Optek Technology Inc in 2003. This brought to the group active components in the field of opto-electronics.

In 2004 TT electronics purchased Sensopad, a small technology business based in Cambridge. From this was created the exciting new automotive sensor technology called Autopad®.

In 2005 the purchase of Dage Ltd, an ems business based primarily in China gave a platform for expansion in the region and created further low cost manufacturing capability for the ems division. Dage Ltd has been renamed TT electronic integrated systems.

In 2006 the purchase of Apsco Inc. completed the creation of a global footprint for our EMS activities. Operations are now based in the UK, USA, China and Malaysia.

In 2007 TT electronics purchased the rights to DAPS (digital angular position sensor), an exciting new sensor technology, together with the rights to the final automotive application relating to Autopad®. In the same year TT electronics sold the AEI Cables operation based in the UK, completing the exit from commodity product manufacturing.

In 2008 TT electronics purchased New Chapel Electronics Ltd, strengthening its existing connectors business.

2008 has also seen TT electronics unite its five electronics manufacturing services (EMS) businesses to form TT electronics integrated manufacturing services division, creating the biggest UK owned global electronic manufacturing services organisation and the 25th biggest EMS operation in the world.

TT electronics specialises in supplying electronics for a global customer base from 23 major manufacturing locations worldwide.
