TT Electronics / ZapCarbon ‘Healthy Home Sensor’ collaboration wins the IoT Social Impact Award

Public voting recognises TT/ZapCarbon with top honour for Internet of Things solution that tackles fuel poverty by monitoring environmental conditions within social housing units

Woking, UK, 8 March 2022 - TT Electronics, a global provider of engineered technologies for performance critical applications, today announced its collaborative effort with ZapCarbon – the Healthy Home Sensor – has been named winner of the IoT Social Impact Award which recognises the use of Internet of Things (IoT) technology to build a better world. The Healthy Homes Sensor, developed to address fuel poverty, brings to the mass market a simple yet highly effective solution to a widespread problem in social housing communities around the world.

“The impact of IoT technology and connected devices can be seen in all walks of life. Whether deployed in smart homes, smart cities or healthcare applications, these connected devices offer the opportunity to transform people’s daily lives and deliver a positive impact,” said Tim Calyton, Sales Director TT Electronics. “As winner of the IoT Social Impact Award, the TT/ZapCarbon Healthy Home Sensor exemplifies our motto of using IoT to build a better world.”

According to the UK government’s latest fuel poverty report, over 3 million households live in fuel poverty, with a high proportion of these in social housing. Inadequate heat and poor ventilation can produce unhealthy levels of humidity that can cause mould formation. The combination of low temperature, high humidity, and mould spores can negatively impact health, especially in children or those that are immunocompromised.

“This prestigious award acknowledges our hard work in developing a simple, unobtrusive device that gives those in social housing a means to combat fuel poverty and unhealthy living conditions,” said Tim Clayton, VP Sales, TT Electronics. “Environmental innovation from ZapCarbon coupled with the electronics technology and IoT expertise from TT Electronics is delivering real social impact and change where needed most.”

Data from the Healthy Homes Sensor is continually analysed for any unusual patterns within the home, providing real-time feedback that alerts residents, social housing associations, or landlords to unhealthy conditions. Over 10,000 Healthy Home Sensors are currently deployed in residences across London, with wider interest expanding rapidly.

A panel of judges narrowed the IoT Social Impact Award nominees to 10, with public voting selecting the overall award winner.
