TT Electronics Announces the Standard VPX 3U Chassis Compatible VITA Package AC/DC Converter — a High-Density Power Platform for Aerospace and Defence

The VPX 3U chassis compatible Package is a next-generation, SiC- and GaN-based AC/DC converter that replaces legacy custom AC/DC converters with a lighter, smaller, industry standard and more efficient design - delivering greater than 96% efficiency and class-leading power density for the most demanding aerospace and defence platforms and it is direct replacement of any competitors VITA package power supplies.

Woking, UK [February 23rd 2025] - TT Electronics, a global provider of engineered technologies for performance-critical applications, today announces the launch of its latest power conversion solution for aerospace and defence - the VPX 3U compatible industry standard VITA Package AC/DC Converter.

Mission-critical platforms demand power that is compact, efficient and uncompromisingly reliable. Engineered specifically for harsh aerospace and defence environments, the VPX 3U compatible VITA converter is built with advanced Silicon Carbide (SiC) and GaN technologies, replacing custom AC/DC converters with industry standard, high density, smaller and more efficient design - improving system performance while reducing weight, size and total cost of ownership.

Delivering efficiency greater than 96% and power density exceeding 700 W/lb (1.6 kW/kg), the platform provides up to 1.1 kW per unit and can be paralleled to 10 kW without redesign. It accepts a 115 VAC, 47–800 Hz three-phase input and provides configurable 24–480 VDC outputs with excellent power quality (PF >0.97), fast transient response and low ripple. The air-cooled VPX 3U compatible VITA package is built to RTCA-DO-160, MIL-STD-704 and MIL-STD-461, and is VITA 46.3 and VITA 46.11 compliant.

Flexible. Scalable. Mission-Ready.

The VPX 3U compatible VITA package is a universal, software-configurable platform: a single design supports AC/DC and configurable voltage outputs, and scales simply by paralleling units as system demands grow. That flexibility makes it suited to a broad range of applications - from avionics, electric propulsion and actuation systems to battery chargers, bus converters for multiple mission systems - while freeing critical space and weight for additional capability.

Sanjeev Sachan, Engineering Director at TT Electronics, said: "As aerospace and defence platforms electrify, engineers need power conversion that is smaller, lighter and more efficient - without compromising reliability. The VPX 3U compatible VITA package replaces customs AC/DC converters with advanced SiC and GaN technology, giving customers class-leading power density and the configurability to meet many applications from a single, scalable platform."

The VPX 3U compatible VITA Package is designed for aerospace primes, defence contractors and system integrators developing more-electric air, land and sea platforms.
