The Challenge
Due to rigorous demands of their target market, Wilson Electronics were looking to find an AC/DC power supply adapter that met extremely specific stringent and unique (with specifications like 1.6% noise and ripple, 70C de-rated operation, custom connector molding, AM and FM non-jamming performance) while meeting a low-cost price point to enable their product to be cozzmpetitive in the consumer market.
We were able to provide their non-standard 4.2VDC level without the need for resubmission to expensive safety approvals.
What We Did
The target price point meant that a custom power supply solution was not an option yet there were customised requirements in the specification including a custom molded output connector, unique locking barrel connector, specific wire cordage type and lengths, stringent output noise spec of 1.6% max of noise and ripple, non-standard 4.2V voltage without the need to obtain additional safety approvals.
Following a deep review of the requirements and the end product performance, our engineering team got to work on a solution based on a modified-standard approach.
We were able to deliver on every required specification while keeping the overall cost of the power supply within the expectations of the customer due to our established experience in global material sourcing and strong relationships with our suppliers.
In our partnership approach, we are now on to our sixth project / programme with Wilson Electronics in 3 years, continuously solving challenges and special requests.
